It's back! Bebo is back!

Hold on there... hold your horses narrator! Bebo is not "back", bebo is in fact dead...

Hmm you make a good point spooky other voice inside my head. However - and this is the scariest thing considering I am speaking to myself - bebo is in a kind of quantum quark state of being both dead and alive at the same time. Yes this schroedingers cat of a company is actually making a come back! Great!

So I say that I am happy about this, well I am happy about this, now - why? I remember when I first heard of bebo. It was a long time ago at this point. I have fond memories of the "early" internet. Of course I was using the internet for years at that point as was my whole family. I don't know, it is the combination of things. Bebo coming back will be good for the internet. Google and facebook need another player. I love the way that bebo is rising like a phoneix out of the flame in which it crumbled into.

Michael Birch began bebo and ended up selling it for $850 million in 2008 to AOL. Michael bought it back reciently for $1 million.

96 - Grace Hopper

Today Google had Grace Hopper on the cover of their page as their Google Doodle. I had heard of Grave Hopper before but damn, I had not heard enough. She was amazing. She did so many things for computers that it is really actually quite difficult to imagine the world without her. A few of the favorite things about her that I like are the fact that she popularized the term "Bug" in a computer program. While the term had been used by engineers before her, she referred to the instance of finding a moth in the mainframe that she was working on, and which was preventing her program to run correctly, as a "bug in the system".

Wow, the actual "Bug" in that was in her program...

She invented the first compiler, a program that would take 1's and 0's (Machine Code) and turn it into a human readable form. But there was something really cool I heard a Kurt Beyer recalling on attending a talk she was giving. At the age of 80 her topic was about the future. The future of personal computer, the future of how people will comminicate. She looked ahead, not back.

Hi there.. it has been a while since i was on and I missed it alot. Enough of that! Onto browser testing...

Go to html5test.com and you will be presented with a page telling you how well your browser can handle HTML version 5. Why would you want your browser to handle html 5? Well version 5 supports alot of things that make your web experience better... alot better when it is implemented.

So on my computer I have Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome... I have not updated all of the browsers yet and I have run the test to see how they do before and after latest versions of the browser. Now remember the following... these marks are out of 500... ahem Microsoft....

I don't know what version exactly this is.. What is Version compared to Update Version? Stupid Microsoft!

• Microsoft Internet Explorer v9 - Do not know how to update browser easily.. fail again MS
• Mozilla Firefox v19.0.2 - This got 393 plus 10 bonus points. - Up 21 points!
• Google Chrome Version 25.0.1364.160 m 463 plus 10 bonus points - Same score...
• Google Chrome on my Samsung Galaxy S3 Android version 4.1.2 - Didn't test yet...

Conclusion...
Keep your browsers up to date.. this test shows how updating can be very useful .. not only from the obvious security point of view but also from the experience you will get from your daily browsing... 

2012 - Day 24 - Working on a website :(

I have a sad smiley face on my post title but I am not really sad, it is just that it is so much work! So much work goes into a site that you are not in 100% control of. I learnt alot though. That is why I make websites, I love it and it pays the rent etc. But there is alot that I am still learning, and it takes time for the brains of this old man to process what he is looking at.

HTML... A scripting language... not a programming language...

But I had to miss my weekly gym night to make the website! When that happens it is not so cool...
