I don't mean this in any offensive way. "Hit" sounds very serious. No, I mean I have been casually surfing and I click on a news article and then I am presented with the opportunity to log into the news providers website in order to keep reading. Of course, for me to log in I have to pay. This is the paywall that I have been "hit" with.

Some papers like the Irish Times, or simply the "Times" which is the New York paper is it? want to charge. I am fully in agreement with them paying of course. They have staff that they need to pay and research that needs to happen etc etc. Ever consider how much it cost to pay a reporter, ship them out to some foreign county and give them a hotel room and expenses in order to cover a news story first hand? It costs a lot. A lot of money goes into uncovering the truth.

Then the likes of Facebook and Google and a slew of leeches read that article that the determined reporter gave us and flogs the news off as its own. What does the Times get for all of their trouble and cost. Well someone like me either reads the news second hand and thinks its "hmm, interesting" or I am hit with the paywall. At which I am like - no thanks dude.

The news does not mean that much to me. Or rather, YOUR version of the news does not mean that much to me. I can get it somewhere else, either from a local source on the ground where the news is happening locally, or I can get the news from the article in question off a second hand report who has copied all the interesting bits from the article. Someone who will have read the article and "reports" on the situation pretending that they themselves have uncovered this info. Or simply someone who will say "I have read that this is happening".

Either way I do not have to pay the Times. But am I killing old school news media. Well, yes. Yes I am. But to blame me personally is interesting. Am I personally responsible for killing paywall news papers? Okay, lets say I am. Am I responsible for letting the Irish language die for not supporting it? Am I responsible for destroying the environment for not using a Tesla but instead using a gas guzzling Ford.

Basically, everything you do means that you are not doing something else. Of course there are always people in the crowd that are going to shout out that some actions are good and some actions are bad. Supporting Tesla means more zinc production which is destroying land, rivers and communities. Speaking English mean NOT speaking some other language. If I speak Irish am I killing English? I never heard and English speaker bust into a room of Irish speaking children and scream at them for not speaking the Queens English because for heavens sake English is dying out! But guess what, I have heard Irish speakers scream at children for speaking English.

Does not matter what you do - it means you are not doing something else. So lets take this back to the news. That paywall. Don't want to pay for your news - fine don't. But when Putin is controlling 20% of your social media and all of a sudden you think it is a good idea to begin teaching Russian in the West of Ireland instead of Irish OR English don't try to figure out what happened. You know what happened. You should have paid for the paywall to be gone. You should have paid for proper reporting.

When you pay for the news, in general I am going to say you are paying for real reporting. When you get your news for "free" you are paying with your soul. Again... when you look at the mirror and only see someone morally bankrupt, opinion-less and confused about the world around them remember what I told you. You pay for the news with your wallet or your soul. No one misses the water until the well runs dry.

The news does not mean so much to me that I pay for it all the time. But I think I know what is going on to a degree. I follow a few different news sources. I am aware that I am however mostly ignorant about the world. I know very little. Can you say that? Look at the attacks on the Capitol Hill in USA or at home look at the rise of right wing anti immigration and anti gay movements that are happening in Ireland. Do they pay for their news? Not a chance.. they are ignorant, live in their own hateful little echo chambers. They are scum.

Not paying for the news, or more importantly, not caring where your news comes from is a dangerous thing.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-70737125753693032512023-11-23T15:49:00.004+00:002023-11-23T15:49:44.654+00:00Current big events in 2023!
I just looked back at this blog for the first time in ages. My last blog was about Sinead O Connor. Yuck, what a nasty place to leave my blog. I never liked Sinead O Connor. She make a mockery of lots of the things that I believe in. Anyway, she died some time... could not even be bothered to look up her death.

Sinead O Connor Wiki page if you must...

Yep, she dead. There is a wiki link. Good riddance.

So what else is happening in the world! Lots of good stuff, lots of bad stuff. Of course I do not believe in a "good" or "bad" in the way that they are terms for "evil" or "saintly" so to me there is simply STUFF happening in the world. Let me make a little list of the biggest things in the world that interest me right now:

1) The Isreal Hamas War

First off here is a link to the war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Israel%E2%80%93Hamas_war

From my point of view, having read up a certain amount over the years, having seen the news over the years, trying to understand world politics better - I have no idea what should happen.

2) Ukraine Way

There is no other way to look at the Ukraine war than the following in my opinion. If you support Russia in this you are an ignorant fool. If you have pity for Ukraine then I am with you.

3) ChatGPT4

I have ChatGPT4. It is amazing. I will never get it to write out something here for me without me having explicitly referenced that it was in fact GPT4 that wrote it.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-34224032650729932852018-08-20T22:15:00.002+01:002023-11-23T15:12:45.963+00:00No need for church to see clearly<div data-reddit-rtjson="{"entityMap":{},"blocks":[{"key":"cft5b","text":"No no no... nope. And the same can be asked of the Church. Was it more good, or more bad. Well I think, when you look at Sinead O Connor that she had alot of songs that people liked, she was an artist... that is good. She had an opinion and she voiced it, that is good I think, but again, note that I do not agree with her opinion, but I do like that she voiced it. Did her opinion do more good than bad or vica versa - I think it had no effect. When I think about it, it had no effect. She did not improve anything. She didn't break anything. She just came across as angry. I am not saying that she was right or wrong either, I am just saying that she voiced what I can only believe is something that she believed in. ","type":"unstyled","depth":0,"inlineStyleRanges":[],"entityRanges":[],"data":{}},{"key":"9at26","text":"Then there is the Church. They voice what one has to believe is something that they believe in. Personally, I do not think that the world was made in 6 days. I think that the church is wrong in virtually every aspect of their canon. The only part of the Church that I do agree with is the part about loving your neighbour, being good to the poor and a few other parts. While I find it hard to do these things all the time myself I do find it ironic that the parts of the church that I believe in are the parts of the church that for the main parts that the Church itself does not follow and that is what gives the church its bad name. ","type":"unstyled","depth":0,"inlineStyleRanges":[{"offset":79,"length":5,"style":"ITALIC"}],"entityRanges":[],"data":{}},{"key":"2d7a9","text":"So what is the conclusion here. Sinead O Connor is irrelevant in society today. So what, she tore up a paper picture. okay, what good did she actually do? The Church is is probably more good than evil... but are the parts of the Church that are evil are so bad that the Church itself should just be abolished? Probably. But what about the hundreds of thousands of good, kind, generous and loving missionaries, priests and nuns and Catholics? Those who are right in the way people should be and that are out there day after day in the name of Jesus and for the millions of people that they help, what would then happen to all them. You, you reading this. Are you going to help? Are you going to help lepers, feed the sick, clean the poor. Or are you just going to leave it to someone else? Who else then? The government? Ha! It will always change and it does not look like it is going anywhere, anytime soon. This is the problem with society... well
one of the problems. The solution to this issue is to realize that both Sinead
O Connor and Pope is wrong. Well, thankfully in the case of Sinead O Connor, was wrong.

<span face=""arial" , "sans-serif"" style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">
Solutions are hardly ever black and
white. Think about it, when is the last time that an issue in society was black
and white. There are questions that are black and white that are in society of
course, should children be abused? Nope.

Should the church hide and protect
priest, and nuns, that abuse children? Nope.

<span face=""arial" , "sans-serif"" style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">
Is The Church wrong,
bad? No. No it is not. This is by the way coming from an atheist, but I have
known many priests that were great people, and women that were great nuns. I
also met horrible ass hole priests and nuns. So it is more correct to say that
the Church has problems, and YES... problems that need to be fixed.

<span face=""arial" , "sans-serif"" style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">
So Sinead O Connor, does she have
issues, yes. Is she all good or all bad, nope. Personally I hated her, but when
you look past what bloody tabloids say about her, she was just like anyone
else, both good and bad. You see, she was no better than the Church she loved
to hate so much.

<span face=""arial" , "sans-serif"" style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">
So the questions becomes then, was she
more good than bad, or more bad than good? And the same can be asked of the
Church. Was it more good, or more bad. Well I think, when you look at Sinead O
Connor that she had alot of songs that people liked, she was an artist... that
is good. She had an opinion and she voiced it, that is good I think, but again,
note that I do not agree with her opinion, but I do like that she voiced it.
Did her opinion do more good than bad or vica versa - I think it had no effect.
When I think about it, it had no effect. She did not improve anything. She
didn't break anything. She just came across as angry. I am not saying that she
was right or wrong either, I am just saying that she voiced what I can only
believe is something that she believed in.

<span face=""arial" , "sans-serif"" style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">
Then there is the Church. They voice
what one has to believe is something that they believe in. Personally, I do not think that the world
was made in 6 days. I think that the church is wrong in virtually every aspect
of their canon. The only part of the Church that I do agree with is the part
about loving your neighbour, being good to the poor and a few other parts.
While I find it hard to do these things all the time myself I do find it ironic
that the parts of the church that I believe in are the parts of the church that
for the main parts that the Church itself does not follow and that is what
gives the church its bad name.

<span face=""arial" , "sans-serif"" style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">
So what is the conclusion here. Sinead O
Connor is irrelevant in society today. So what, she tore up a paper picture.
okay, what good did she actually do? The Church is is probably more good than
evil... but are the parts of the Church that are evil are so bad that the
Church itself should just be abolished? Probably. But what about the hundreds
of thousands of good, kind, generous and loving missionaries, priests and nuns
and Catholics? Those who are right in the way people should be and that are out
there day after day in the name of Jesus and for the millions of people that
they help, what would then happen to all them. You, you reading this. Are you
going to help? Are you going to help lepers, feed the sick, clean the poor. Or
are you just going to leave it to someone else? Who else then? The government?
Ha!

So the Church has problems, definitely.
Sinead O Connor has problems - sorry had. But she could only live to whatever
age she had, whereas the church is over 2000 years old, and while it is
changing somewhat at the moment it has to be noted that it was always changing.
It will always change and it does not look like it is going anywhere, anytime
soon.

<span face=""arial" , "sans-serif"" style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">
But should we apologize to Sinead O
Connor? Well, no? Did we do something wrong? No. Does the church owe her an
apology? Maybe, but that is between the Church and Sinead O Connor.

The reason I have written this HUGE reply
is the following. Stop pandering to Sinead O Connor. Walk away. If you do not
believe in what she is saying - walk away. Leave her alone. Let her voice be
that noise in the background that once you stop looking for it, that it goes
away. And you know what... the Church. Walk away. Once everyone walks away from
it what will happen. The Church will disappear. Society will or will not help
the poor. Society will or will not feed the hungry and cloth the needy. But you
know what else - society will survive.
I believe that the church is a business.
It survives on money, wealth and power. It survives on influence. It survives
because like a bully in the school yard that keeps picking on the weakest in
the classroom the church needs those not fortunate enough to have an informed
opinion so that it can itself stay alive. And if we apologise to Sinead O
Connor for tearing up a picture of the Pope, we are keeping the Church real.

not looked at Sinead O Connor tearing up the image, do not look at it. Walk
away. Look at a video of how electricity works. How economy works. Learn. Learn
how society benefits when all members of society are looked after equally and
taxes and wealth are distributed evenly among all people. Walk away, and if on
your path you see someone homeless, or hungry remember that you can help. You
can help directly, you can donate to a charity.

I have tried this before... twice. I almost got there, like two thirds of the year in but I began missing days.. and covering up for them and I was loosing track... how many days had gone really? Had I missed a day by mistake? It is a huge commitment writing something each and EVERY day!

But I am a great believer in try and try again. I am going to attempt to generally write something in every day for a whole year. The last input being that before my birthday on the 3rd September 2018. We'll see how that goes I guess.

So yesterday was my birthday. I was gifted, apart from my friends and family and their best wishes of course, a knife set, a lovely new digital Casio wrist watch and a new phone! A One Plus Five. The phone seems blisteringly quick. The knifes seem dangerously sharp! The watch seem frighteningly accurate at telling me, well, the time I guess.

Anyway that is all. I am looking forward to it. A blog a day for a year can I do it this time!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-90995352329609260822017-06-28T22:13:00.000+01:002017-06-29T00:52:23.004+01:00Space Opera Vs!Here is a cool little thing I like to do... Have you been watching "A Handmaid's Tale"? It is very good. Well acted. You know all the usual stuff, the sets are well lit. The sound is good. These are things you take for granted but they need alot of work in television and film production. What else is important? Hmmm... Well the continuity is good. You know what continuity is? That is when someone is for example holding a cup in, lets say, their right hand in a scene, the camera cuts away from them and then back to them and all of a sudden they are holding the cut in their left hand. You know? What else is important?

Hmmm.

Well set costumes are important. All the clothes look well, Gives a certain look and feel to the program. A feeling of doom and utter hopelessness. A feeling that everything is shit in this world and that there is no hope for anyone. Wait a second, this is reminding me of one more thing that I have left out of my "what makes a good TV or Movie" list.

Yes, that's it. The story. You know like a quality story. Not like Eastenders or Home and Away story. I mean a real story that actually has something to say. Like real meaning kind of stuff. So I don't want to give too many spoilers away so if you do not want any spoilers look away now... go to another webpage. Close this tab on your browser and go elsewhere. Go on....

If your still reading. Ask yourself this. What countries support female genital mutilation? What countries is it illegal to be gay in? Would you visit these countries? Would you support their governments? Support their economies? Well I did some research.

Here is a link to the Wiki page on the trendy FGM...
How about countries that are illegal to be gay in? Lets look into that....

(going away doing some research...)

Yemen

Iran

Mauritania

Nigeria

Qatar

Saudi Arabia

Afghanistan

Somalia

Sudan

United Arab Emirates

Boy oh boy... scary isn't it. Saudi Arabia... UAE. These are countries that we trade with! These are countries that America have done massive arms deals with lately. USA have signed an arms deal worth $110 billion with SA that will increase to around $350 billion in the coming years (click here for link). You telling me that a man as crazy as Trump might not make the Handmaid's tale come true?

I love the series A Handmaid's Tale so much because I hate the point of the story of the Handmaid's tale so much.

This is actually pretty reading. I am signing websites up to Googles Search Console and this was one of the pages that was on it. Considering it is Google that supplied this document I consider it very worth reading.

And here goes...

The reports in Search Console are organized according to the general outline of the Google Search pipeline: Content is first crawled (discovered), then it is indexed (parsed
and analyzed for content), after which you, the website owner, analyze
the search traffic to your site and also consider how search results are
displayed to the user or linked to by other sites.

Crawl

Google’s web crawlers follow links and sitemaps to generate a
list of publicly available URLs to visit and index for content. This is
the first step in the process of being added to Google’s search results.

Property
A generic term for a website or an app that you have added to
your Search Console account. You can see a list of your properties on
your account homepage.

Verify
To prove that you own the website or app referred to in your
Search Console account. A property must be verified before you can start
seeing any data for it. You’ll be asked to verify a site after you add
it to your Search Console account.

Googlebot
Google’s web crawler. Google has a few different Googlebots that
request your pages as different device types (a smartphone, a feature
phone, or a desktop computer) to calculate different search results for
users searching on these devices.

Canonical
If you host the same page at different URLs, your search results
can be diluted across these duplicate pages. For example, you might
have the same page at http://example.com/dogs and http://www.example.com/dogs;
a search might then show separate, lower ranked results for each page
than if you had only a single page. In this case, you should indicate to
Google that these pages are the same, and choose one to be canonical
(the official page) to show in search results. Indicate canonical pages
or sites using a Sitemap, HTML tags, or Search Console settings.

robots.txt
The name of a file on your site that tells Google which pages not to index or show in search results.

Sitemap
A list of URLs in your site that Google uses as starting
locations to begin crawling a website. A sitemap is contained in one or
more files stored on your website.

Index

The process of visiting URLs and analyzing the content and
meaning of each page. This helps Google determine the best search
results for a user’s query.

Resource
A web page typically loads many additional resources such
as CSS, JavaScripts, and images. Be sure that Googlebot isn’t blocked
from accessing any resources that affect the meaning of the page during
the indexing process.

Render
Google tries to display all pages that it indexes in order to view the page as a user would. Rendering is the process of displaying the page with the images and layout to help Google analyze the meaning of the page.

Search traffic

Manual action
If your page violates one of Google’s quality guidelines, such
as spammy content, it can be subject to a manual action, which will
demote it in Google search results.

International targeting
Explicitly targeting your search results at users by language or
country. This can be done using hreflang link tags or the country
targeting setting in Search Console.

Search appearance

How your page or app appears in search.

Structured data
A public XML standard way of describing information about your
pages in a format that the Google crawling engine understands. For
instance, you can add ratings, event information, or video information.
Some types of structured data are used to create rich snippets.

Snippets
The small descriptive lines of text that appear under each
result in Google search results. These are generated programmatically by
Google during indexing, and can have visual characteristics known as rich snippets.

Rich snippet
A visually enhanced Google search result, such as star ratings
or event times. Rich snippets are often generated from structured data
added by the page author.

Sitelink
If your website has a logical hierarchy or structure, Google
might display a set of sub-links below the main search result. For
example, for an airline site, the main result will be the airline home
page, and the smaller links below would be direct links to the booking
page, the flight status page, the baggage policies page, and so on. You
cannot specify sitelinks for your site.

I have begun a new game. I am well into it actually at this stage. Lots of nice colors and good level design. That thing I just said, that would be my dream review if someone were to ever review the game. I hope that they would say "The colors look amazing. The world is well realised. The game play is gripping and the level design is awesome!". Yes I would go to sleep that night with the thought in my head that I have made a great game.

You see, for all my blabbing up top there, that is really what I am trying to do. I am actually trying to make a game that will be brilliant. I want you to play the game and go, "that game was worth every cent that I paid for it! I must tell one of my friends to buy it."

Whether or not you will do that is really not too much of an issue right now, right now I just want to design 30 levels of a game that you will have played in a few hours. I have completed level 4 just last night. I got my Sophie to test the game this evening and she said that she liked Level 4 alright but I do not think that she liked it as much as the other levels. The initial 3 levels are more fun, fun, fun based. Level 5 will be fun for the player as a reward for completing level 4. Anyway... I would say remember the name of the game but that might be counter intuitive as I am still coming up with the name that suits the game the best at this point.

Lets say that for now, the code name is BlowUpBlocks. The final name of the game might of course be BlowUpBlocks, we will see. I'm off to begin work on some particle explosions :)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-19758755814712429082017-01-23T22:49:00.001+00:002017-02-21T22:22:19.159+00:00The sound of singing in the rain musicSaw these two films over the weekend. They were quite good. Great to be honest and a fine example of classic cinema. For some reason I hated musicals when I was growing up. I do not know why. I don't know if I have some strange associations with musicals and my childhood. I asked my mother if she had seen them when we were young and she said SHE had seen them a few times. So what was I doing?

Hmmm?

In case it is not obvious what two films I am talking about, they are Singing in the Rain and The Sound of Music. The are linked just there to IMDB. Check them out on IMDB.

So I find it interesting, how come I never liked musicals growing up. I think it might be because I did not like the dancing. I did not appreciate songs too. Maybe when I was young I did not like films now that I think about it. I can't really remember seeing many films at home.

Look, my point is, if you have not seen these films give them a shot. Did you see them once and can't remember them? Give them a second chance. Set aside a few hours and watch it with someone. Your partner, your kids or your parent and siblings. Create something I wish I had more of from my youth. Some happy memories.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-90108350118637161012017-01-21T17:16:00.000+00:002017-01-21T17:16:03.284+00:00Social Blade - Stats on youtubers and more....My favorite YouTuber is probably Philip DeFranco. Let me think about that for a moment... hmmm. Yep I guess he is, there are other people that based on how I am feeling, what I want to know about etc I will go to, but the best all rounder has to be Philip DeFranco, for me that it.

So who is yours? Take a moment. Of course you might not have one, but I am going on the assumption that if you are smart and handsome enough, and pretty enough, and brave and witty enough to be reading this article that you have subscribed to someone on YouTube or that there is some YouTube that, while you may not have subscribed to, that you are at least a fan of, Think of that person, who are they.

Will for me it is Philip DeFranco. However, his username is sxephil. Note: you are not addressing the Queen in a formal letter - this is modern speak. So his username is not Sxephil. It is sxephil. Small s at the beginning. It annoys me when people throw in capital letter because they "feel" like it. Note again: they "feel" it as opposed to they are correct about it! I have been on YouTube for a few years. I have posted a few videos, and my username is donalodomhnaill. Now, you wanna know how much money I make on YouTube?

hmm C-. Social blade is a good reflection of alot of my schoolin.

This is finally what this article is about. There is a brilliant website called socialblade.com. Go there now in a new tab so you can come back here. So socialblade.com is for getting stats on people who are on social media. So you can find out about users on twitter, YouTube, Twitch and Instagram. Try it out, you have two usernames for YouTube already. Mine: donalodomhnaill and Philip DeFranco: sxephil.

I am going to assume that you have of course gone to socialblade and put in our usernames. See who makes more money? Me or Philip. Well, yeah. DeFranco in that I am not monetized even. And I do not have 5 million subscribers. And I go not get a million views on my videos. Indeed my figures look pretty grim.

But it is a pretty cool channel is it not?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-28671394742483697822017-01-09T10:56:00.002+00:002017-01-09T10:56:18.123+00:00Modern Films Rant<span style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #1d2129; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Before you jump into this piece I have written I would like you to note that I love virtually all film. If it is inturrupted as "Donal does not like Oscars films or Action films" - then I am sorry. I did not mean for the article to come across as this. I LOVE action films, romance, Oscar films etc. I love films. This is why I have written this below.
<span style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #1d2129; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">

First, I have this theory. Lets say I am a movie critic. Now, I want to be known. I want to have a name for myself! A film comes out and I review it. The film is cool but touchy feely maybe with emotions and romance in it but there is also sci-fi or adventure... BOOM. I don't like it (the "I" that is the critic doesn't like it). The critic usually does not have the language to describe and critique a film that is both "this" and "this". The critic is afraid that if they describe too many different themes in a film that their audience will be lost. "What is all the political undertone you mention and the fact that the lady represents old America and that her being beaten by the business man is representative of modern capitalism destroying civilians freedoms! I only saw a woman getting smacked around the place!" New audiences are trained to only look at the facade of a film... is someone killing someone. Check. Is some lead female semi-naked. Check. Is some handsome man semi-naked, and build like a demi-god. Check. Is stuff blowing up. Check. Is there a political undertone that is attempting to reach the masses. Nope (could put it in but it would be lost on the audience and ultimately take up screen time where stuff could be blowing up). Do we treat women with respect and with equality? Nope - kids do not know what this is really so we are just risking alienating our key demographic by including equality of girls. Are ethnic minorities being respected? No of course not - us respecting ethnic minorities alienates the plot that the key demographic is comfortable with. It is what our key demographic looks for in an action film. Now, lets say that a film comes out that is pretty different to this... almost... ALMOST I SAID! Almost as if it were engineered to win Oscars, like La La Land. No explosions! And there are political undertones! And there are throwback references to classical cinema of a bygone age! What say you now of modern cinema? Ha! I say (and this Donal now not a critic speaking), I say that "La La Land" and the likes, "12 years a slave" etc etc, basically "Oscar films" will always exist because this is Hollywood karma restoring itself. Hollywood makes a few billion a year on action... Hey why not throw classical romance a bone, okay lets make a classical romance film. What about political undertone, I like it, lets make a film with political undertone! What about respecting women and treating them equally? Hmmmmm. Hmmmmm. Hmmmmm. What do you think men? Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm. You know what... it'll probably get us an Oscar! Throw in some respect of women too. So back to the critics... they have what? 200 words to describe the film? 100 words? It is clear what the Avengers is. That can be described in 100 or 200 words. "La la Land", yep 170 words will review that film no problem. But what a second, don't try to get me to review an Action/Romance/Political Undertone film! Who am I, Jay Sherman? Also, there is the thing that if 9 critics say that a film is good, and if a critic wants to be heard, are they going to be voice number 10 saying it is good? No, they want to stand out as "listen to me! My voice is different!
<span style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #1d2129; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">

<span style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #1d2129; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">This is where POINT NUMBER TWO comes in! Rotten Tomatoes is full of these kind of critics. That is why I never trusted Rotten Tomatoes.
<span style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #1d2129; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">

<span style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #1d2129; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">POINT NUMBER 3! <a class="" dir="ltr" href="http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2FIMDB.com%2F&h=CAQEOi025" rel="nofollow" style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #365899; cursor: pointer; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">IMDB.com<span style="background-color: #f6f7f9; color: #1d2129; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"> simply rocks. Well first of all what is Google Android?

Android, as most of you realistically know, is the operating system that is distributed by Google. Android enables the user to interact with the physical hardware of the machine that you are using. Have a Samsung Galaxy? Odds are that it is running Android. However without Android you would have alot of expensive computer equipment just sitting like a brick. Android tell the computer what to do, and lets the user browse, take pics with the camera, Skype etc etc.

So what is the Amazon Fire? Like the previously mentioned Samsung Galaxy, the Fire is a piece of hardware that would sit uselessly like a brick unless it had some software to run it. It needs an operating system of course, and the operating system that it uses is Google Android. But it is not a "vanilla" install of Android, it is a pretty modified version of Android that Amazon call - "Fire".

So, my cousin came over with an Amazon Fire that they had just gotten that day as a present and they were wondering why they could not install Google Android apps on it, When I heard the problem I told them about the who Android / Fire thing and I got to work.

First I went over to http://rootjunkysdl.com/files/ where I selected Amazon Fire 5th Gen from the list of links. Here I downloaded the zip file named "Amazon-Fire-5th-Gen-Install-Play-Store.zip".

Next, while that was downloading I went into setting on the ADB Fire and I sound the Serial Number and I clicked on it more that seven times in a row, this simply enables the Developer menu. I went into the developer menu and I enable ADB (Android Debugging Bridge - lets you in this case connect the Amazon Fire to the computer).

Then I unzipped the file I had just downloaded, I ran the one and only .bat file that was in the zipped folder and when I was presented with a menu I selected "2" to install Google Play store.

Along the way you might have to agree with various thing both on and off the device, but you are doing something here that essentially Amazon does not want you to be doing, so you have going to have to agree with some thing outside of your expectation, however nothing bad was forced upon me anyway when I was doing this.

I rebooted the device, and scrolled down the page, and boom, Google Play Store. Thanks to howtogeek for help for this.
Easy as pie.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-52752643541472319682016-11-09T16:25:00.000+00:002016-11-09T16:25:28.640+00:00Sweet Resistance - Game Jam 8 EntrySo the other day myself and my daughter attended a GameJam in Galway city (Ireland). She's 11 and so I was really happy with what she came up with considering that she made 100% of the graphics on the game. She did alot of the "coding" too, I did help out with that. It was a 12 hour gaming session so I was really impressed that she kept her head the whole time, nice and focused, we would take a break, walk around town, then go back bust out some game development.

The reason I say "coding" is because the game is make using scratch. Scratch is IDE that enables you to create a game and post it directly to the scratch website. Look, the point here is that you can simply the game by clicking on the link below. The only thing is that you must press the green "Play" flag to kick off the game.
You know what, I would like to write one. How do I do this? Hmmm, wait, I know. You start writing, you write some EVERY DAY. You do it consistantly. Then you finish the book... Well, here is what Stephen King had to say in his book "On Writing".

1. First write for yourself, and then worry about the audience.
“When you write a story, you’re telling yourself the story. When you
rewrite, your main job is taking out all the things that are not the story.”

2. Don’t use passive voice. “Timid writers like passive verbs for the same reason that timid lovers like passive partners. The passive voice is safe.”

3. Avoid adverbs. “The adverb is not your friend.”

4. Avoid adverbs, especially after “he said” and “she said.”

5. But don’t obsess over perfect grammar. “The object of fiction isn’t grammatical correctness but to make the reader welcome and then tell a story.”

6. The magic is in you. “I’m convinced that fear is at the root of most bad writing.”

7. Read, read, read. ”If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write.”

8. Don’t worry about making other people happy. “If you intend to write as truthfully as you can, your days as a member of polite society are numbered, anyway.”

9. Turn off the TV. “TV—while working out or anywhere else—really is about the last thing an aspiring writer needs.”

10. You have three months. “The first draft of a book—even a long one—should take no more than three months, the length of a season.”

11. There are two secrets to success. “I stayed physical healthy, and I stayed married.”

12. Write one word at a time.
“Whether it’s a vignette of a single page or an epic trilogy like ‘The
Lord of the Rings,’ the work is always accomplished one word at a time.”

13. Eliminate distraction. “There’s should be no telephone in your writing room, certainly no TV or videogames for you to fool around with.”

14. Stick to your own style. “One cannot imitate a writer’s approach to a particular genre, no matter how simple what that writer is doing may seem.”

15. Dig. “Stories are relics, part
of an undiscovered pre-existing world. The writer’s job is to use the
tools in his or her toolbox to get as much of each one out of the ground
intact as possible.”

16. Take a break. “You’ll find reading your book over after a six-week layoff to be a strange, often exhilarating experience.”

17. Leave out the boring parts and kill your darlings. “(kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings.)”

18. The research shouldn’t overshadow the story. “Remember that word back. That’s where the research belongs: as far in the background and the back story as you can get it.”

19. You become a writer simply by reading and writing. “You learn best by reading a lot and writing a lot, and the most valuable lessons of all are the ones you teach yourself.”

20. Writing is about getting happy.
“Writing isn’t about making money, getting famous, getting dates,
getting laid or making friends. Writing is magic, as much as the water
of life as any other creative art. The water is free. So drink.”

Not great but the fundamentals are there. I used the website http://www.wikihow.com/Draw-a-Face

It is interesting when you look at the website how much method is behind it. I often think of that when drawing (I do not draw half enough). The face below is simply shapes. Draw this oval. Divide it into quarters. Draw lines that divide the image up more. Animals find beauty in symmetry. If a face is symmetrical then the odds are that the DNA in the parent was healthy and so we are instinctively drawn toward beauty. When people saw beauty is skin deep they are wrong, it is as deep as the very fiber of your being. So that is one of the most important thinks to remember when drawing a face, symmetry. Straight on is the easiest way I think.. like the image below, difficult art comes in when shots are taken above and to an angle or the like. I have been watching a lot of Pokemon lately and I am always impressed by the art. It is so great, whatever the opinion of even the most close minded might think about the series, the story, voice etc it can't be argued that the art is anything but great. And with that said, Pokemon is just a drop in the ocean. There are so many animations and anime and manga out there with brilliant art. I like to attempt to draw something well every now and again (the image below is not one of those times) in order to appreciate the skill that others have. Some people who make drawing look as easy as others find to criticize it.

Gamers love Japan is a film put together were tons of people talk about Japanese game culture. Pretty much that is it really. The film was made to rise money I think for tsunami victims. For the rest of us it is good to introduce it to some heros of the Japanese gaming community like Shigeru Miyamoto (Zelda, Mario etc), and Gunpei Yokoi (Gameboy creator). It is definitely worth a watch...

It is such an easy game to play, and to tell the truth it is not all that good at all. In the game you are a spaceship flying around collecting coins. The number of coins that you leave behind are doubled and taken from your time. When you reach the final time, boom the game finishes. It is definitely not much to look at or play but behind the scene all the ingredients are there for a proper game.
So I know what I have and I am happy enough with it. I am revisiting an older game I made that was fully working bar some bells and whistles. Well I am revisiting the idea but building a while new game. There were alot of things that I did not like about the other game I made. The graphics sucked. Sound sucked. Movement sucked. Amount of game play sucked. But you know what did not suck? It was a working game. It worked! You could fly around the level. Collect coins. Have a timer that timed your lap. Then I speed working on it for some reason, I have no idea. Me stopping working on it, THAT sucked. Then the version of unity that I was making the game on got updated and my game got kinda busted up. So I loaded a new version of unity and I have begun a new game from the ground up.

Uhhhh. That also sucks.

Or at least at almost 5 am as I said. Now I have begun working on a new game. I can make a block move around the place which is 101 really. I got Wyck with loads of things I feel I should know at this point. Uhhhh.

Everything might seem better tomorrow.

Something that bothers my wife is when I keep on interrupting her say "Hey Linda look at this! Look at this... hey Linda look at this..."

Wait I have made this too personal...

I have this friend, he has a wife and when he is trying to tell her something that he thinks is interesting he is like "hey <strike>linda...</strike> Martha, I have set up Google Adsense."

And she is like "aahahahahahahhahaha I am a dragon...."

And I am like... "ohh I will be your Khaleesi". Then we smile and everything is okay. Oh wait, I mean that I am sure this friends wife looks at him and that everything is okay.

(but she corrects all my spelling first)

And she is like "hahahahahahahha I am a dragon!" and on <strike>we</strike> they go...
It's cold and damp and miserable. It is nearing the end of October and the sky is already beginning to darken and it is only half five. An outdoor event, a Zombie walk, that I was meant to go to tonight has been cancelled because of the oncoming horrible windy wet weather that is promised tonight. I am sitting in my car staring at a poor dog that is sitting patiently in the muddy filthy field next door that boarders the fence of my driveway. The poor thing, he or she is waiting for me to come out of the car. In her mind I guess she is thinking I might feed her this time. Or I might talk to her this time. Or I might, and I am sure that this would be the best thing of all, I might play with her. Interact with her and treat her like a living being. Of course I never do any of these. I never interact with the poor what so ever. It is only a dog. An animal that is chained up outside a house, lonely, wet and probably pretty cold. It is bitterly cold this evening so I run into my house and glance at the poor canine one last time for the evening. She is standing up expectantly in the field, gleefully gazing at me, her tail wagging.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-11355080774825796742015-08-13T10:14:00.003+01:002015-08-13T10:14:47.058+01:00Good article on the death of the universe......spoiler alert. Sadly there is actually a 4th but it is not working, and i was really looking forward to seeing it working, but what do you do. It is a bummer. I am going to record me playing them, and well load them up on YouTube of course. Can't wait.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766784045987177195.post-67328038571615290732015-06-04T00:52:00.000+01:002015-06-04T00:52:42.377+01:00Making A Game! - Part 2So today I went over to a friends house and we looked at some Unity 5 stuff. I have made a main menu screen that is going to go with the main game that another person has made. More on that later on in the weeks to follow. I am looking forward to this other person to finish the bit he is working on so that I can finally just something on the Google Play Store at last. It will cost $25... around €20 I think.

So on my own game, the teddy bear game I think that I have a clearer picture of what I want to do. It is becoming clearer in my mind what has to happen. I must do some drawings and post them up here so we can see if my vision right now matches the finished version.

In Unity 5 there are sample bits of code available in the form of Sample Projects. One of them is a side scroller. I will have a look carefully at the code and simply copy as much as I possibly can. My aim here is not to reinvent the wheel at all, or to come up with beautiful code at all. No, my aim is to make a game, get it out there. If things go as planned with my friend that I am working with, I should have that game up on the Google Play store in around 2 weeks.

That would be progress.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
